Annotation |
The Peace Corps has been helping people since 1961, mostly in countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. When the Soviet Union broke up, former Communist-bloc countries began asking for help and soon more than 500 Americans were working in Eastern Europe. The author describes the volunteers and the jobs they do in places such as Poland, Romania, and Slovakia. For grades 5-8 and older readers.
