Annotation |
The first European to reach Delaware was the English navigator, Henry Hudson, on a mission for the Dutch. He found a land inhabited by the Lenape, members of the large Algonquian group of Native American tribes. In 1787 Delaware became the first state to ratify the Constitution, thus the first state in the Union. The author discusses the history, geography, economy, culture, people, and sites of Delaware. For grades 4-7 and older readers.
