Annotation |
The first whites to settle in Connecticut were Englishmen who had lived in Massachusetts. Their descendants, known as Yankees, were for generations the state's dominant ethnic group, although they are now a small minority. Connecticut drew up the New World's first constitution in 1639, and produced hundreds of other "firsts," including the first cotton gin. An introduction to Connecticut for grades 4-7 and older readers.
