In the fall of 1777, the British army occupied Philadelphia, where the Darragh family lived. Charles, the oldest son, had joined General Washington's army, and the rest of the family became spies. This story recounts the daring adventures of fourteen-year-old John, the youngest son, who delivered secret messages to General Washington's camp by hiding them in the buttons of his coat.
