Annotation Herbert Hoover was born on August 10, 1874, in West Branch, Iowa. He graduated from Stanford University with a degree in engineering and worked all over the world. Elected president in 1928, he was denounced for opposing federal aid to starving Americans during the Great Depression. He was defeated in 1932 and left office embittered.
