Annotation Jimmy Carter was born in 1924 in Plains, Georgia, and grew up on a 350-acre farm. His childhood dream was to attend the U.S. Naval Academy. Accepted when he was eighteen, he became an officer upon graduation, and later served as an aide to Adm. Rickover.
