Annotation |
A leading French sociologist, Crozier, first visited the United States immediately after World War II and found it a generous, hopeful society. Upon subsequent visits, and in 1980, he saw the country differently. Here he examines the transformation from hope to stagnation in U.S. life and concludes that prolonged success ultimately brings decline. He further emphasizes that Americans have put too much faith in their institutions.
