Ford was born in Nebraska on July 14, 1913, and named Leslie King, Jr. Two years later his parents divorced, and he and his mother moved to Michigan. His mother remarried, and his name was changed to Gerald R. Ford, Jr. Upon the resignation of Nixon, Ford became the first president never elected to the presidency or the vice-presidency. For grades 5-8 and older readers.
