A biography of William Edward Burghardt DuBois, a distinguished scholar, author, and educator and one of the most important civil rights leaders of the twentieth century. Born in 1868 in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, a member of the proud New England free black society, he is educated at Fisk and Harvard, and in Germany. DuBois becomes a lifelong human rights activist, dying in Ghana, West Africa, in 1963. For grades 6-9 and older readers.
