Annotation Millard Fillmore was born on January 7, 1880, in Cayuga County, New York. As a young boy he worked hard on the farm that his family leased. At fourteen he was apprenticed to a clothmaker. When he was nineteen he became a clerk in a law office and was admitted to the bar in 1823. He became president in 1850 upon the death of Zachary Taylor. For grades 5-8 and older readers.
