On June 12, 1942, Anne Frank celebrated her thirteenth birthday. Among the many gifts were books, jewelry, candy, and a diary. Less than a month later Anne and her family, who were Dutch Jews, were forced into hiding by the Nazis. Although Anne would die in a concentration camp before her sixteenth birthday, the publication of her diary would make her famous. For grades 5-8 and older readers.
