Peggy Pond Church is called the First Lady of New Mexico Poetry. Her life saw canyons, trails and pines, a flood, and the loss of her home World War II's Manhattan Project. Born in 1903 on a New Mexico ranch, Church lived the second half of her life in Taos, Berkeley, and Santa Fe. Of her poetry's observations of land and people, she commented, "It's the land that wants to be said." New Mexico-Arizona Book Award.
